The highlights of a beautiful evening at Old Lodge Nature Reserve in the Ashdown Forest were:

  • a hobby
  • family groups of stonechats
  • reasonably good views of a singing Dartford warbler
  • a vocal raven
  • displaying siskins
  • a singing woodlark and a tree pipit
  • common redstart male and female seen
  • a churring nightjar (seen in flight)
  • a roding woodcock (joined by a second bird on the second pass overhead)
